Welcome back! The breaks always fly by. Hopefully your break was filled with gratefulness, food, and good company.
On Monday, November 29th, our homeroom class will have their fort party! Please remember to send your child to school with a flashlight, a book, and a stuffed animal. The students seemed so excited for this before the break! We are excited to enjoy each others' company and read some good books! Also, please continue to check your child's BEE folder. With several absences occurring at once, it is easiest for me to send missing work home. I will always label the absent work as HOMEWORK, and the assignments will go in the "bring back to school" side. Sending work home rather than catching students up at school allows me to provide academic intervention to students. Aspire is nearly up-to-date. I have a few absent student grades I need to update on the computer, but I do have the grades all documented in my physical grade book. Please expect those grades to be fully updated by the end of the week. Continue reading with your child! SO many students are reading with 100% accuracy!!! This is something to celebrate! Accuracy helps comprehension, and comprehension moves students from learning to read, to reading to learn. Please let me know if you have any questions! Thank you for being awesome! Ms. Hansen Hello!
One more week until Thanksgiving break! All students are doing a great job working hard despite a nearby break. Incentive! Over the past few weeks, the students voted on having a "Fort Day" reward if they reach 500 class dojo points. They are so close to reaching their reward! I plan on having this special day the Monday that students return from Thanksgiving break (Monday, November 29th). During homeroom, we will turn off the lights and have 30 minutes dedicated to reading in "forts." Please send your child to school with his or her favorite books, a flashlight, and his or her favorite stuffed animal! These belonging will only be taken out during our designated incentive. Students must keep these items in their backpack for the rest of the day. I will send you a few more reminders before the incentive day! Absence Update: There have been several long-term absences. Rather than getting your child "caught up" in class, I will be sending assignments home with your child and labeling them as "homework" in his/her BEE folder. I am sending these assignments home with your child because I prefer to use intervention time to fill academic gaps rather than "catching students up." If you are concerned about your child's grade in Aspire, please reach out to me and I can send missing work home. As always, if you have any questions for me, please send me an email or call WPA. I always want to make sure everyone is comfortable with our class procedures! Take care, Ms. Hansen Hi Everyone!
I know it is a little late, but thank you SO much to those of you who helped out with out Halloween party. It could not have been done without your help! Additionally, COVID exposures have been on the rise. We doing a variety of things to minimize the risk of exposure in our classroom. Here are a few things we are doing right now:
Last, continue to check your child's BEE folder each night. Your child is welcome to make corrections to any mistakes on his/her class work! It is a great opportunity to fill any potential learning gaps. Thank you so much for your time! Check out the math, literacy, and homeroom tabs for updates on instruction. Have a successful and productive week! Ms. Hansen Hello,
I hope everyone had a great Halloween! It was a beautiful weekend for trick-or-treating! Wasatch Peak Academy has a book fair event going on this week! If you are looking to purchase books, you can come into school 30 minutes early, or you can stay after school for 30 minutes. The book fair is located in the library. If you feel comfortable sending your child to school with money, you can do that as well. The book fair is also open during the students' lunch time. Literacy night is on Thursday, November 4th! Last names A-M will come from 6:00 pm to 6:45 pm and last names from N-Z will come from 6:45 pm to 7:30 pm. Hope to see you join the fun! Thank you for your continued support! Ms. Hansen Hi There!
This week we will be having our Halloween party on Friday at 11:15 am! Your child is allowed to wear his or her costume to school. Please ensure your child's costume follows regular "dress down" guidelines and rules (here is the dress code). IMPORTANT--If you signed up to volunteer this Friday, YOU MUST HAVE A BACKGROUND CHECK COMPLETED BEFORE VOLUNTEERING. This is a timely process, so PLEASE get your background check in by the latest of Monday, October 25th. If you do not have a completed background check (with finger prints), you will NOT be allowed to volunteer. Please regularly check your child's completed work in his or her BEE folder. If you notice lower scores, correct the work with you child and return it to school. I am happy to give partial credit back for any corrections made in a different color. This is also a good way to keep track of your child's progress in class. Occasionally, I tell students to take their work home without getting a check mark or score from me. This is okay! I visually look over these assignments so students don't have to turn everything in to me first. Thank you to those of you who donated snacks for our class to eat on Fridays! This has helped many students. You are so appreciated! Please check the literacy, math, and homeroom tabs! I have some important information to share! Thanks and have a wonderful week! Ms. Hansen Welcome back!
I hope everyone had an enjoyable fall break! Today, students reviewed some classroom expectations to get them back into the school rhythm. The end of the term is approaching this week. The last day to submit late work is Wednesday, October 20th. I updated Sign Up Genius and added some Halloween volunteering slots! I added four slots:
Please check the literacy, math, and homeroom tabs for more information in those areas. Have a great week! Ms. Hansen Hello, families!
This week is parent/teacher conferences week! Please keep in mind that you will not be given any paper copies ahead of time if you attend via Zoom. I will send those papers home with your child after our meeting. I look forward to seeing you all at conferences this week! Here is my Zoom code: 442 567 5823 Instead of updating the literacy and math tabs, I'll briefly explain our plan for the week on this homepage. In literacy, students will be writing in complete sentences to write a Halloween story! Students brainstormed ideas first, and used those ideas to create a story. This week, students will edit their paper and create a final draft. Also, students will work on determining the problem and solution in a class read aloud story. In math, students will consolidate their learning by solving real-world math problems. Students will be working in partnerships to determine solutions. Then, students will share their ideas with other students in the class. Thank you and have a great fall break! Ms. Hansen Hello!
Thank you to those of you who are signing up for volunteer activities and/or donations! Your time helps our classroom tremendously. Additionally, parent/teacher conferences are next week. The Sign-Up Genius link was sent to each of you in the Wednesday Note last week. If you missed it, here are the links for Monday and Tuesday. Hope to see you in person next week! Aspire is updated! Please check your child's grade. Recall that all math assignments can be found on your child's iReady account. Directions are located in the "Math" tab. Students will be running one mile in gym class this week Wednesday (for my homeroom student). Please ensure your child comes to school with athletic shoes on that day. That's all the general information I have this week! Please check the literacy, math, and homeroom tabs before you go! Best, Ms. Hansen Hello!
I hope your children enjoyed either extra day off! I don't have a lot of general information this week. Please keep in mind that P/T conferences are approaching in early October. I'd love to meet all of you and discuss your child's progress in school thus far! More information will be sent to you shortly. Our class is also in need of two more families to donate some individually packaged snacks for students who forget to bring a snack on Friday. Thank you so much for your help so far! You can sign up under the "How to Help" tab. Take a look at the literacy, math, and homeroom tabs, please! Hello!
I hope this message finds you well. I want to thank all of you for staying connected with your child's education thus far. I really appreciate the corrected classwork coming back to me. I think it is valuable for children to review their errors to bridge those learning gaps! Keep being awesome! Here a few updates regarding this coming week:
Thanks so much! Please check out the literacy, math, and homeroom tabs before you go! |
